System Components & Features

Coastal Tide Monitoring Stations
Installed along the coastlines of four key provinces, these stations continuously measure sea levels using advanced radar-based tide gauges, ensuring precise and reliable data collection.
Weather Instrumentation
Humidity levels
Atmospheric temperature
Wind speed and directionThis data helps in understanding environmental conditions affecting tide patterns.
GPS Positioning System
To ensure accurate spatial referencing, each station incorporates a GPS system, enabling precise location tracking and data validation

Data Management & Reception Center
All collected data from the tide gauges and weather sensors are transmitted to a centralized data reception server housed at the NMSA head office. This setup allows for efficient data processing, analysis, and storage.

Training for NMSA ICT Personnel
Comprehensive training sessions will be conducted to ensure NMSA ICT staff are proficient in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting the new tide gauge systems. Training modules include hardware operation, software management, data analysis, and system security protocols

This upgraded RADAR Tide Gauge system aims to significantly improve maritime safety, environmental monitoring, and coastal management across Papua New Guinea, supporting informed decision-making , sustainable development and replaces the outdated tide gauge infrastructure, introducing a robust, automated system that enhances data accuracy, operational efficiency, and system reliability.

System Upgrade and Modernization
The RADAR Tide Gauge project is an advanced coastal monitoring initiative designed to enhance tide measurement accuracy across four key provinces of Papua New Guinea: Alotau, Kimbe, Lae, and Port Moresby. This modernized system integrates state-of-the-art weather instruments, GPS technology, and centralized data management to support maritime safety, navigation, and environmental monitoring.
